Opioid Crisis In the United States
![]()
In the United States more than 800,000 people have died from overdosing on opioids. This problem has been an issue since the early 2000s.
People wonder why addiction is such a problem but there is no real answer. There are many different ideas out there why people do drugs. People can do it once and it leads to addiction, this abuse can also lead to euphoria which is the feeling of happiness.
Opioids are a type of prescription pain medication. This pain medication turned into an illegal drug and people were dying quickly. There is treatment you can receive for opioid addiction but the possibility of it not working is there. Treatment comes in different forms like medications or getting psychological treatment.
Treatment is serious and you go through many different withdrawal symptoms like chills, anxiety, vomiting and sweating. Even after the treatment you can experience these symptoms. It is said that 13% of people enroll into treatment but treatment doesn’t always work.
While in treatment people depend on their family for support. Roughly about 1.2 million adults recover from being in treatment.
Even though there is a high recovery rate, relapse can happen very easily. Different people and places can cause flashbacks and the flashbacks cause relapse.
Drugs are bad and they have a horrible effect on people. The people using the drugs do not see this at all. People think it benefits them in different ways like helping with grieving, stress, and they do it because they think it is cool.
In reality opioids are killing people or are people killing themselves? Opioids are a threat and they are all around. People can even try to abuse their prescriptions. Addicts need help but they need to help themselves as well. Temptation is real and it can indeed happen to anyone who is in that circumstance.
