Back the Blue

Back the Blue

Across the United States, there are more than 18,000 different law enforcement agencies whose soul purpose is to serve and protect the community and their citizens. Within the 18,000 agencies, there are 708,001 full-time active-duty police officers. Some people view all 708,000 officers as being corrupt, crooked, and power happy individuals that abuse their power; but the good heavily outweighs the bad when it comes to talking about Police.

Without funded police departments across the United States, our country would crumble. The cops across the US do a tremendous job in trying to keep our streets safe.

The Good Outweighs the Bad

Some people tend to look at the police as bad individuals and that all they want to do is hurt unarmed individuals for fun. Politicians look and wait for these instances to occur, and that is when they strike. They call for police reform and defunding of police agencies across the country.

The media tends to try and find the most absurd and distasteful images of police officers when they are talking about the Police. And then this is what leads to the mass protests in big cities across the country.

The Good Cops

The sad part about all of this is that the bad and dirty cops are the only ones that get broadcast across the media waves in this country. The good officers in this country outweigh the bad by hundreds of thousands, but they are never recognized, only the bad ones are publicized for their stupidity.

The police go to about every single emergency that is within their jurisdiction, and most of the times they go on mutual-aid runs to help out neighboring departments. If you call 911 and say your house is on fire, more than likely a cop will be the first one to arrive. They will be able to assess the situation to the best of their ability and relay the information to the fire department.

When you call 911 to report you or a loved one is having a medical emergency, police officers will be the first to arrive. They are all trained with basic life support skills, such as CPR and First Aid. So they will be able to assess and begin help right away, hoping to save the persons life.

If a neighboring community's police is in need of assistance, cops from all over will hear the call over the radio and rush to help. Police departments are always helping one another out, no matter the cost.

Protests

The Black Lives Matter group, or BLM, is one of the major organizations that are trying to take down the police. The police and all individuals believe that all lives matter and that no one should be wrongfully killed. An article by authors Hoang and Benjamin states “These results suggest that even if cities with Democrat mayors are initially responsive to the concerns of BLM protesters, this responsiveness may not be sustained over the long term.” They are using statistics to prove that if police budgets are get decreased, they will have to be increased later on down the road in order to keep our streets at peace.

There was a recent uproar when a young man was shot and killed by police officers in the City of Chicago. The man was being pulled over for a traffic violation, and instead of complying, he decided to shoot police officers. The cops were able to deescalate the situation, but the man was sadly killed in the process. Without the police's quick wits, citizens of Chicago could've been at risk. The cops acted with speed and bravery, and was able to secure the streets fast and safely.

Without funded police departments across our nation, the streets in our communities would not be safe. We wouldn’t be able to send our kids outside to play in the yard, ride their bikes up and down the street, or even to go play a pickup game of basketball at the local park. Most importantly, we wouldn’t have the community interaction that allows us to make friends, grow, and succeed that we have today.
